Steven “Sam” Wayne Moretz, 63, of Connelly Springs, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2025 at home following a period of declining health.
Steven was born on August 29, 1961 in Chatham County, GA, a son of Linda Jean Moretz Ball Martin and the late Ned Thomas Moretz.
In addition to his father, Steven is preceded in passing by a stepfather, Frank Ball; sister, Rita Fritz; four grandparents; a nephew, Tyler Moretz; and a niece, Rhonda Guill.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Patty Moretz of Connelly Springs; mother, Jean Martin of Indiana; son, Nicholas Moretz (Brian); daughter, Tabatha Moretz (Kelly); stepdaughter, Sebrina Brooks (Chad); three sisters, Darlene Zimmerman of Indiana, Carolyn Downing (Stephen) of Greensboro, and Kendra Edwards (Shawn) of Rhodhiss; three granddaughters; one grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at 5:00 PM in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with Rev. Leo Jones-Morton officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 from 4 PM to 5 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Village Nursing Home at 1265 21st St NE, Hickory, NC 28601and Carolinas Continued Care of Pineville at 10648 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210.
Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory is assisting the family.
I will say Sam my friend you you was a good friend man when I was growing up, while I was a young man you invited me in your home and man let me tell you one thing from that day forward me you Mikey, Scott the bitch, and half of Rhodhiss if not more, we jammed on some AC/DC Bob Seger Lynyrd Skynyrd and well everybody knows the rest, partied like hell Jim Beam Jack Daniels George Dickel and a whole lot of some of the best marijuana that came around growing up, man we were wide ass open. All night playing poker seven card down the river and knock poker those were the days brother I love you and blackjack and then it’s kind of like we’d forget who’s bet it was because we were taking shots kind of like Whose Line Is It Anyway LOL, I should have came and seen you more but the older you get the more life is challenging to just deal with your own spiritual self but I will say man you have always been like a brother to me and you will be missed.
