Mr. Ross Edward ‘Ed” Fidecaro, 75, of Hickory, passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, surrounded by his family, at Carolina Caring Hospice, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Ed was born on September 7, 1949, in Seattle, WA, to the late Joseph Fidecaro and Thelma Grice Fidecaro. He was a retired truck driver and a talented master carpenter, and an elder of Marketplace Church in Hickory.
Surviving is his beloved wife, Melody Fauver Fidecaro of the home, and his five children: Dean Fidecaro and wife Jackie, Dina Lane and husband Ken, Caleb Fidecaro, Sarah Huffman and husband Mark, and Emily Rose McGuire and husband Zack. Also surviving are his grandchildren; Jordan Fidecaro, Chey Lane, Felix Fidecaro, Ash Huffman, Lucy Huffman and Quorra Huffman, and two great-grandchildren, Luca and Leon Lane.
In Ed’s own words, “My name is Ed. For those of you that are obsessed with statistics, I’m 75, bald, absolutely no experience with writing professionally, and my wife of 42 years says she’s gorgeous. (Oddly enough, she thinks I’m gorgeous too, which is an indication of her mental state.)”
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. at Marketplace Church in Hickory, with Pastor Mark Myers officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
An online guestbook and obituary is available at www.heritagefuneralservices.com

Being a gorgeous man inside and out.
He will be so so missed.
My Love and prayers are with the Fidecaro family as they walk through this difficult time. Please know how much support you have and how much you are loved. Ed was a great friend who always loved on my family and I always enjoyed talking home projects with him. Today my heart hurts for the family, but I smile knowing Ed is with his savior, pain free, and talking shop with the Master Carpenter.
Just wanted Melody&family to know what a pleasure it was to be a friend of Ed.He was such a talented guy.He will surely be missed by everyone in his circle of friends
I had the great pleasure of meeting Ed and Mel and spending time with them and their family during several visits I made to their home when they lived in New Zealand.
Ed was a tremendous family guy who would do whatever he could to help whoever needed help without question.
My thoughts and prayers go to the family at this time.
May God bless you all.
Ed was my brother-in-law. I loved him dearly. He was funny, loving and kind. He loved his family deeply. He adored Melody, he once told me, she was “his everything”. Im a better person for having known him. His faith was deep. He will be so very missed. Heaven has gained a wonderful man.
I was saddened to hear of the passing of Ed as I have many fine memories of the times we spent together talking and as well as serving the Lord in the Kerikeri Christian Community School.
Ed was such a wonderful faithful giver of both time, much energy and finances in wholeheartedly serving the Lord and others.
We also have many fond memories of you serving among the children of Excite for years with Ed alongside.
We realise that the journey you have been through must have been very tough and extremely sad not only for you but also your family. You have always been a woman of faith with a strong resolve to press on in Christ regardless of the trials that you go through. Both Ruth and I hold you in high regard and also hold you in our prayers at this time.
I fondly look forward, with joyful anticipation, to talking with Ed in the Glory where we will be together again with him and also many others of our loved ones who have gone on before.
We send all our love to you and all the family and friends at this time.
For His Glory,
Paul, Ruth and Family
Pegmans and fidecaros. Two families joined into one. We had the privilege of doing life together through good times and bad. Ed we love you so much. You will always be in our hearts and whilst we cry that you are no longer with us, we know you are with our Jesus healed and whole. Love you forever

My American Dad,
Thank you for teaching about Jesus, how to open popcorn bags without burning my fingers, American politics, for showing me just how good Italian food can be, for the history lessons, the life lessons, the Sunday school lessons and so so much more. Thank for embracing me and my family. You were there to celebrate our victories and comfort us is our losses. Oh how I will miss your giant bear hugs!
The loss of you leaves a huge hole but I’m smiling through the tears picturing you in heaven teaching Joseph a thing or two about carpentry!
The legacy you leave behind is huge and the lessons you’ve taught me are already being passed down to my children and then will be passed down to their children and then their children.
Heaven is lucky to have gained you ❤️
Love you
Ed was such an incredible loving creature; he was kind and caring to me in a time of my life that I needed it most. I hold the memory of myself in full glam for prom & he was in the garage working on his woodworking covered from head to toe in dust but stopped to have a first dance with me. He was a great man!
There is much that could be said here about Ed, but we’ll be brief. Upon our first visit to Marketplace Church a few years ago the first faces we seen were those of Ed and Melody. They openly welcomed us in a way that only they can do, and we will never forget that day. But it wasn’t only us. We witnessed their welcoming openly to everyone that comes to MPC. They both set the standard by the way they love others. They invite many into their home to share that love and kindness. After getting to know them better and being invited to their home on several occasions Lori and I discovered we were truly in the presence of a real brother and sister in Christ. Thank you so much for that guys! In addition to being a great carpenter Ed was also an awesome chef. Lori and I experienced the absolute best Italian cuisine we have ever tasted when we were invited for lunch on Sunday. We thank you for that too! 😀 We love you both and will miss Ed greatly. Thank you for your friendship, fellowship, and brotherhood Ed. Lori and I do not normally like goodbyes, so we will just say for now, until we meet again. “donadagohvi”
I am Ed’s nephew (Melody’s eldest sister’s oldest son) Chris. I grew up around Aunt Melody and Ed from as far back as I can remember visiting, playing, chopping wood, helping with home renovations and attending church during weekends and during the summer. I even visited them in NZ and helped Ed with some painting and visited them in Hickory several times. I did not expect this day to come so soon. I am so blessed, lucky and fortunate that I got time to visit him in Dec and he got to meet my grand son
Antonio.
I am so thankful for all the life lessons, advise. Wisdom and mentorship that you provided me over the years. Ed, thank you for teaching me the importance of hard work and dedication. Thank you for teaching me about the importance of family and religion. Thank you for keeping me busy as a teenager and away from drugs and alcohol. Thank you for helping me get my first summer job at 16 making $350 a week. Thank you for always being there and all the conversations about politics or religion. Thank you for everything and always being a guiding positive influence in my life. You are truly missed.
Love. Chris and Eula Gilmore
Melody and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers every day. When my late husband Steve passed away, Ed and Melody were such a comfort to me. At the time, I had custody of my Grandson who was devastated by the loss of his Papa. Ed took him under his wing and loved on him. I will never forget that. Then when my son Levi needed help, you two took him in. Again, words are not enough. Ed is now at home with Jesus waiting on all of us to show up. I’m sure when he gets an opportunity, he’ll have a long talk with Steve. They so enjoyed being servants and serving together I’m sure they will do the same there!
Love to you all❤️
I remember when I was very young being taught in Sunday school by you Ed and Melody. Memories I cherish and have laid a foundation for my Christian walk. I am the person I am today because of what I have been taught. Other joyful times over dinners with the family. Attempting to eat pancakes that had sugar switched with salt. Thank you Ed
Heaven has gained a good one
