Peggy Sue McQueen Francis, 90, of Greensboro, NC, transitioned from this earthly home on February 15, 2024, at AuthoraCare Collective in Burlington, NC, after a period of declining health battling pancreatic cancer. Peggy was born September 10, 1933, in Carter County, Tennessee, to the late Conley T. McQueen and Dolly Mae Wagner McQueen. She attended Olive Hill High School in Morganton, NC. She was a devoted wife, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all who loved her. Peggy loved to be surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren; being involved with her church family, doing mission work, knitting, crocheting, playing games, and outings with her senior group of friends, “The Silver Forks” and making those around her feel loved. She was an avid card player.

In addition to her parents and in-laws, she is preceded in death by her husband of 64 ½ years, James W Francis; sister, Molly Ann McQueen Major; brother, Tyler Grant McQueen; sister-in-law, Reama O. Francis Jackson and brothers-in-law, Troy N. Francis and Lester Francis.

She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Tina Francis Kelly (Ken), of Highland Park, Illinois, and Marieta Francis Garner, of Greensboro, NC; a son-in-law, Donald L. Garner, of Greensboro, NC; five grandchildren, James B. Kelly (Melissa), of Glendale, Wisconsin, Jason B. Kelly, of Chicago, Illinois, Marasia D. Moss, of Durham, NC, Tyler K. Riddle (Trevor), of Fleetwood, NC and Landon B. Garner, of Greensboro, NC; five great-grandchildren, Emma J. Kelly and Olivia B. Kelly, both of Glendale, Wisconsin and Bentley J. Riddle, Hudson E. Riddle and Tilmon B. Riddle, all of Fleetwood, NC; two Sisters-in-law, Willie Marie Francis Blye, of Charlotte, NC and Hazel Francis Casey, of Kings Mountain, NC; her best friend, Mrs. Marie Fullwood, of Glen Alpine, NC; dear friend, Frances Alsborg, of Greensboro, NC; caregiver, Patricia “Pam” Legrand; her nurse, Nancy McAlister, with Authoracare Hospice; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Homegoing services will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at 3:00 pm, at New Day Christian Church, Morganton, NC with Pastor George Logan officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Mt. Herman AME Church Cemetery, Glen Alpine, NC. Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory in Valdese, NC is assisting the family.
