Mr. Matthew Dewayne Lunsford, 28, of Valdese, passed away unexpectedly, on Tuesday August 29, 2023.
Matthew was born on April 2, 1995 in Burke County to Johnny Lunsford and Lisa Webb Lunsford. He was a member of Calvary Freewill Baptist Church and was employed as a correctional officer at Foothills Correctional Facility.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Johnny and Jackie Lunsford.
Surviving in addition to his parents, is a son, Konnor Lunsford, one sister, Shelby Whisnant and husband Nicholas, a brother, Joshua Lunsford, and grandparents, Kevin and Shelia Bias.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at Calvary Freewill Baptist Church, with Rev. Freddy Lindsey officiating.
The family will receive friends on Friday, from 1:00until 2:00 P.M. at Calvary Freewill Baptist Church in Connelly Springs.

Growing up with you made some of my most cherished memories. I am proud of the man you became and to have called you my friend. I had nothing but love and respect for you. Truly I never knew a more compassionate and caring friend and I was blessed to have known you. I’ll miss you brother.

Never in a million years would I have thought when we’re little growing up that you would have passed away at such a young age..I remember playing with you and Shelby all the time, swimming in the pool, and having such a great childhood together. There’s no words that anyone can say to ease the pain but I will be praying for yall.
