Mrs. Joanne Burns DeLong, 87, of Valdese, passed away on Monday March 6, 2023 at her residence after a period of declining health.
Mrs. DeLong was born June 18, 1935, in Burke County, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Belle McGalliard Burns. Joanne was a faithful and active member of Enon Baptist Church, serving as a member of the Joy Belles and was instrumental in starting the Senior Saints. She retired as supervisor of Scottsdale Public School Food Services.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Lee Holland, Samuel Burt DeLong, two sons, Johnny Lee Holland and Ivey Lynn Holland, three brothers, L.C., Jimmy, Lovie Burns, and six sisters, Delene Powell, Teleta Cole, Eula Carswell, Ruth Piercy, Nelda Pruitt and Alice Allman.
Surviving are her daughters, Barbara Holland Alberts (Lee) of Valdese and Kim Holland Bildilli (David)of Phoenix, AZ, and sister, Mary Elizabeth Arney of Morganton. Also surviving are the apples of her eye, her grandchildren, Lee Fowler Alberts, Jr. (Lindsay Edwards), Jonathan Richard Holland, Alisha Dawn Goodwin(Eric), James Robert Holland, Casey Nathan Holland, Jeana Marie Mercer, Samantha Sue Holland, Charles Clint Bowman (Tina Whistnant), Kaitlyn Nicole Bildilli, Michelle Dawn Halbert, great-grandchildren, Lee Fowler Alberts, III, James Holland, Jasmine Halland, Adalynn Rose Goodwin, Alexander Dean Halbert, a number of other great-grandchildren and great great-granchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Joanne Burns DeLong will be held at 12:00 P.M. Saturday March 11, 2023 at Enon Baptist Church, with Rev. Bruce Piercy and Rev. Gary Garner officiating. Interment will follow in the Enon Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 12:00 P.M. at Enon Baptist Church.
