Ms. Helen Davis Bernard , age 97, of Connelly Springs passed away on Thursday, March 2nd, 2023 at her home.

Born April 13th, 1925 in Burke county at the Old Mineral Springs Hotel owned by her grandparents and parents. Helen was a daughter of the late William Earl Sr. & Flossie Mae Davis. She was a fearfully devoted Christian, and she was the most loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.  Helen was a member of First United Methodist Church of Valdese. She was a 50 year member of the choir and a member of the ladies circle (circle # 6). She was a member of the Valdese music club. As a great service to the Valdese community, she ran the kindergarten out of First United Methodist Church of Valdese for many years. After that she went on to be an assistant teacher at Icard Elementary School. She continued to substitute teach up until 80 years of age. She attended Mars Hill College and received her bachelor’s degree in dietary management from the Women’s College of the University of North Carolina in Greensboro.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother Dr. James Jefferson Davis, sister Francis Davis Ellison, brother William Earl Davis Jr., and a still born daughter whose name is known to God. Survivors include four children, Clint Bernard Beverly Tyner and her husband Paul, Debbie Bernard, and Mary Bernard Harmon (whom she lived with during her final five years of life). Four grandchildren Leslie Tyner, Susan Tyner and her husband Joao Palma, Jennifer Holt and husband Adam, and Harrison Tyner and wife Jessica.  Four Great-Grandchildren, Emerson Tyner, Marcello Tyner, Harlow Tyner, Hugo Holt. 12 nieces and nephews and numerous other extended family. She also leaves behind 2 men she thought of as son’s Rick Davis (her nephew) & Ricky Holcombe (close friend).

Following a private graveside service, there will be a celebration of Helen’s life held on Sunday, March 12th, 2023 at First United Methodist Church of Valdese at 3 PM with Pastor Jim King officiating.
