Mr. Garry Dean Powell, 65, son of the late Vernon Jackson Powell and Shirley Fox Powell, of Connelly Springs, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 surrounded by his family at his residence, following a period of declining health.
Garry was born on September 8, 1959 in Burke County. He was previously employed as a dye house operator in textile manufacturing and was currently employed at Timberwoods Restaurant. Garry enjoyed being outdoors, either fishing or riding his motorcycle.
In addition to his parents, he was precede in death by his grandparents, Alice and Jesse Powell and Tom and Etta Fox, his siblings, Vernon “Buck” Powell, Myra Fortenberry, Roger Powell, Loretta Powell and a brother in-law, Ken Schulze.
Survivors include his sisters, Evelyn Russell (Earl), Gladys Schulze, and Patsy Cross(Delbert). Also surviving is a brother in-law, Scott Johnson, an aunt, Judy Powell, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and friends, Mike and Karen Detter.
A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 3:30 PM at Zion Road Baptist Church, with Rev. Micah Piercy officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00-3:30 PM at Zion Rd. Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Carolina Caring Hospice, 3975 Robinson Rd., Newton, NC 28658.
Wow it seems like yesterday that dumpy and I was making mud cakes and you and Rodger was eating them and swimming at the walnut tree all of us together as kids you’re a good man Garry. I will cherish the memories of us growing up together for the rest of my life love you always your little sis Therese
