Thoughtful, fun, kind, loyal, brave, hilarious, dear, good soul, and caring: these are among the words many people have used to describe Cheri Lynn Hoilman, 62, of Drexel, who passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023, in her home. Cheri was born on August 18, 1960, in Mitchell County and was the daughter of the late Faith and Ronald Hoilman. Bringing joy and a “wicked sense of humor” to coworkers and patients alike, Cheri lived her life serving others for 40 years as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Cheri also lived for horror movies, haunted houses, roller coasters, zombies, t-shirts from Hard Rock Cafes worldwide, and fried chicken legs from the Daniel Boone Inn. When her cousins visited from out of town, Cheri’s Southern hospitality never failed to surface, especially in the form of her homemade banana pudding, which always left them longing for their next visit. In addition to her parents, Cheri was preceded in death by many fur babies she spoiled rotten over their years with toys, special treats, and even the occasional glass of sweet tea. Surviving Cheri is her beloved puppy, Teddy; many beloved cousins, including Brenda Walters, Mandy Walters, Kay King, Robin King, Bob Guinn, and more; her dear and faithful friend, Erma Horldt; as well as her chosen family on the 5th floor at UNC Health Blue Ridge in Morganton. The Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at 11:00 in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese, with Rev. Timothy Horldt officiating. Instead of flowers, the family asks that you donate in Cheri’s honor to A Better Life Animal Rescue of Morganton, NC.
