Yates Shuford Palmer Jr., 85, beloved husband, brother and friend of many
passed away peacefully with his wife Diana by his side on Tuesday, March
5, 2024 at Carolina Medical Center, Charlotte NC.
Yates was born September 23, 1938 in Burke County, to the late Yates
Shuford Palmer, MD and Lillian Wrigglesworth Palmer, RN. His was a life well
lived, leaving many legacies, and blessed by countless extra ordinary
relationships with many loving friends. He was exceptional at staying in
touch with life long friends, reminiscing every detail of their adventures. His
most favorite pastime was reading world maps. He had many travels
around the world. He attended schools at Valdese Elementary School
(Valdese, NC, 1944), Asheville School (Asheville, NC, 1955), The McCallie
School (Chattanooga, TN, 1956), UNC Chapel Hill (Chapel Hill, NC, 1960 – BA in History), and Mercer University (Atlanta, GA). He was a pharmacist and was successful in Real Estate and Investing.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife of twenty-
one years, Neal Brown Thompson Palmer; and niece, Rebecca Ann Safran.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Diana Cline Palmer of the home;
brother, William Lea Palmer of Morganton; and sister, Lillian Ann Palmer Reeves of San Marcos, TX. Also surviving is his nephew, John Kevin Reeves and wife Sylvia; niece, Andrea Beebe and husband Dave; and great nephew, Enzo Reeves.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, March 18, 2024, at 2:00 PM at
Waldensian Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Lance Perry officiating. The
family will receive friends after the service in Pioneer Hall.
