Mr. Wayne Douglas Walker, 77, of Morganton, passed away on Thursday January 12, 2023 at his residence, after a period of declining health.
Mr. Walker was born September 8, 1945, in Caldwell County, a son of the late George and Bessie Dyson Walker. He graduated from Lenoir High School and Caldwell Community College. Wayne served his country as a member of the U.S. Army N.C. National Guard. He worked in furniture manufacturing for 40 years and after moving to Morganton in June 1998, upon his marriage to Beth Horton Dellinger, he began a second career with G & G Moldings and worked there for 22 years.
Wayne was a 40 year member of Hibriten Masonic Lodge # 262 of Lenoir, a member of N.C. Grand York Rite, serving as Grand High Priest in 2007 – 2008. He was a member of the N.C. Order of the Eastern Star, chapters in Hickory and Morganton. He was currently serving as District Deputy Grand Patron for the OES 15th District. Wayne was a faithful member of Morganton First Church of God where he taught Sunday School and sang in the choir.
Wayne was truly a person with a hard-to-explain sense of humor. He was kind to everyone he met, he loved animals, nature, gardening and woodworking. Any spare time was spent in his workshop creating rustic works of art for family and friends. Wayne Douglas Walker was a wonderful person who was loved by many and he will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers Buddy and Raymond Walker and sisters, Sue Clark, Joanne Whisenant, Georgie Walker and Doris “Tiny” Walker.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 24 years, Beth Horton Walker, sons, Wesley Dellinger (Dawn) of The Woodlands, TX , Scott Dellinger (Heather) of Rock Hill, SC and special family members, Amy and Todd Zagora of Charlotte.
Wayne loved being “Poppy” to his grandchildren, Maddie Dellinger of Boone, Jake Zagora of Charlotte, Caroline and Charlotte Dellinger of The Woodlands, TX and Hugh and Palmer Dellinger of Rock Hill, SC. He is also survived by three sisters, Lois Costner of Lenoir, Judy Whisnant of Indian Trail, Diane Price of Lenoir and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition, Wayne leaves behind the loves of his life, fur babies, Rosie, Lulu and Jacque.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday January 16, 2023, in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese, with Pastor Jon McDivitt and Russell Bridges officiating. Masonic
Rites by Hibriten Masonic Lodge # 262 will follow.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese.
