Vernon Derron Daugherty Sr., 90, of Connelly Springs, passed away peacefully at the AMOREM Hospice facility in Valdese, NC on Sunday, November 17, 2024 surrounded by family.
Vernon was born April 24, 1934 in Florida to the late Paul Jones Daugherty and Carrie Moretz Daugherty. He was a graduate of Newton-Conover High School. Most of his working years were spent in the employment of Guy Frye and Sons Construction company in Longview, NC where he worked in the cabinet shop. There are also many homes in the area with beautiful and skillfully crafted kitchen cabinets he built in the workshop behind his home. In retirement, he traveled and worked in many areas of NC and the United States with NC Baptist Men Disaster Relief.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Wanda Mull Daugherty, son, Kevin Daugherty; brother, Darrell Daugherty; sisters, Evelyn Ragan, Vera Fox, and Janice Triplett; and son-in-law, Bill Coulter.
He is survived by his wife, Naomi Ledford Travis Daugherty; son, Vernon Derron Daugherty Jr. and wife Susan; daughter, Dolores Daugherty Coulter; grandsons, Andrew Daugherty, Patrick Daugherty and wife Tiffany, and Jeffrey Daugherty and wife Kimberlyn; granddaughters, Lindsey McCarter, Natalie Daugherty, and Emily Daugherty; great grandsons, Landon McCarter, Liam Daugherty, and Coulton Daugherty; and great granddaughters, Autumn McCarter, Lauriana McCarter, Cadence Cowal, Callie Daugherty, Carolynne Cowal, Kinsley Daugherty, Harriet Cowal, and Sophia Bollinger.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024 at 3:00 PM with Rev. Dr. Micheal Pardue and Pastor Shawn Davis officiating. Entombment will be private following the service.
The family will receive friends on Friday, prior to the service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.

This man was the best ive ever known, and i will always compare men to him, and they never measure up. Never heard a curse word from him. Never seen him drink, no fighting with grandma, worked every day, even in his 80s. By far a better grandpa then my brothers and I deserved! 🙁
