Verlie Wade Brittain, 86, of Valdese, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024 at Amorem Hospice following a period of declining health.
Verlie was born March 20, 1938 in George Hildebrand, NC to Fred and Georgia Brittain, as their eleventh child. Verlie loved bowling and playing golf with his friends and watching it on TV. While he would play three times a week before his declining health, he almost always came home complaining about missed shots, bad bounces, and water and sand hazards! He enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to visit a number of European countries and many states across the nation. He served honorably in the United States Army National Guard in the 1960’s and loved his church and community.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy Pascal Brittain and his ten siblings.
He was a loving father to Jeff Brittain (Susan), Lori Holden (Todd), and Beth Childers, stepfather to John Pascal MD (Susan). Additionally he is survived by eight grandchildren, Megan Brittain, Keegan Brittain, Annie Kouba, Emily Kouba, Chloe Childers, Britton Childers, Stephanie Pascal, and Kristen Pascal; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and many friends. His special lady friend, Bertha Pearson, will especially miss him and their time together.
We find comfort in the knowledge that dad’s legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the many memories that we will cherish forever.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 5, 2024 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Valdese with Pastor Josh Lail officiating. Interment will follow at Wilkies Grove Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends on Monday prior to the service from 1:00 PM to -2:00 PM at the church.
Memorials may be made to Burke County Senior Services c/o Meal on Wheels, 501 North Green St. Morganton, NC 28655.
