Tony Allen Poteat, 75, of Newton, departed this life to his heavenly home on Thursday February 8, 2024 at Catawba Valley Medical Center following a period of declining health.
Tony was born on February 5, 1949 in Catawba County to Evelyn Whitener Phillips. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was a computer operator with First National Bank, First Union Bank, Thomas and Howard and later H.T. Hackney.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Michael Poteat.
Survivors include his wife, Gail Huss Poteat of the home; his children, Jason Poteat of Hickory and Aaron Poteat and wife Kristy of Rutherford College; his mother, Evelyn Whitener Phillips; seven grandchildren, Brayton Poteat, Griffin Poteat, Dawson Poteat, Ronan Poteat, Weston Poteat, Addison Poteat and Ethan Poteat; two sisters, Teresa Williams of Hickory and Kathy Phillips of Conover; one brother, Freddie Phillips of Rutherfordton and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday February 11, 2024 in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese, with Rev. Dr. Josh Lail officiating. Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Park with Military Honors by the U.S. Marine Corps and the Caldwell County Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00-3:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Service, 1507 Main Street East, Valdese, NC.
Aaron, sorry to hear about your Dad. We had covid last week so was afraid to be in a crowd, but our thoughts and prayers are with your family.
