Tommy Bennette Wood, 71, of Morganton, passed away Monday, May 15, 2023 at UNC Blue Ridge Healthcare after a brief illness.
Tommy was born January 24, 1952 in Wilkes County, to the late Jones Wiley Wood and Betty Ann Canter. He enjoyed life as an avid hunter and fisherman and had been a member of the Huffman Bridge Boating, Fishing and Hunting Club, and the Foothills Chapel of Wild Turkey Federation. Tommy found pride in his roles as a painter, mechanic, and maintenance engineer at J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center. He also loved his 1986 SS Monte Carlo.
In addition to his parents, Tommy is preceded in passing by his daughter, Selena Casey and half brother Johnny Keys.
Surviving are his life partner, Janet Oliver of the home; Deborah Causby Wood, mother of Amber Briere; one daughter, Amber Briere of Valdese; five grandchildren, Gabriel Holtz, Hailey Briere, Valerie Yates, Chance Gonzalez and Jessica Gonzalez; half-brothers, Robert Wood, Mark Keys and David Keys; half-sister, Jennie Kuritar; step siblings, Rita Eckhout, Gary Blevins, Mike Radtke, Doug Radtke and Renee Sullivan.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023 at 12:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, with Rev. John Pritchard officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Friday, May 19, 2023 from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.
Memorial contributions may be made to Potecasi Creek Hunt Club, 258 Carolina Ave S, Ahoskie, NC 27910.
