Mr. Thomas Davis (Rareback) Corpening, Jr., 84, of Morganton, passed away on Friday November 8, 2024, at College Pines Nursing Center, after a period of declining health.
Mr. Corpening was born April 30, 1940, in Burke County, a son of the late Thomas Corpening, Sr. and Celia Rutherford Corpening. He retired as a sander from Drexel Heritage Furniture Co. after many years of dedicated service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Elizabeth O’Neil, Uncles & Aunts, Melvin & Katherine Rutherford, Hattie Rutherfod, Hugh Rutherford, Thomas & Peggy Rutherford, Gilbert & Edna Rutherford, Tom & Maude Rutherford, Johny Rutherford, Robert & Marie Scott, James & Mary Rutherford, Rosa Rutherford, Ralph Rutherford, George Rutherford, Abner Rutherford, Jessie & Leonard Rutherford, Leroy & Ruth Rutherford, Rob Rutherford, Amelia Rutherford, nieces, Marlyn Rutherford and Sandra Rutherford.
Surviving are his Children, Gail O’Neil (Willie), Andy O’Neil, Ricky O’Neil all of Morganton, Hubert O’Neil of Asheville, Dean O’Neil (Sandy) of Albany, Oregon, Dennis O’Neil (Tanya) of Charlotte, and his siblings, Nellie Reid of Gastonia, Freddie Corpening (Brenda) of Lincolnton , Floyd Corpening (Alberta) of Glen Alpine, and Preston Corpening (Jennell) of Morganton; Aunt, Noma Ervin; Uncle, Lewis Rutherford; and a number of grandchildren & great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews..
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Friday November 15, 2024, in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Services, Valdese, with Rev. Tommy Carpenter officiating. Interment will be, at a later date, in the Forest Hill Cemetery, Morganton.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:30 PM Friday at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese.

R.I.P. Raveback. What a pleasure it has been being a part of your wonderful life. I will miss our Sunday chats about football, basketball and what I was cooking for breakfast. What a wonderful gift you have been. You could always make laugh or bring a smile to my face. You always made me feel like I was part of your family. Thank you. Dean and I love you now and for always. Now you can be with Mom in Heaven.

Thomas was such a kind and humble man. It was an honor to see him each day at College Pines. He will be missed!
