Thelma Huffman Lail, 94, of Valdese, passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Trinity Ridge following a period of declining health.
Thelma was born June 13, 1929 in Burke County to the late Willie Huffman and Lottie Icard Huffman. She was a devoted member of Abees Chapel Baptist Church, and enjoyed serving her church family. Thelma worked at the Waldensian Bakery for over forty-five years baking and decorating cakes. When she was not working hard at the bakery, she enjoyed canning and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Alvin R. Lail; five brothers; and two sisters.
She is survived by her children, Eddie Lail and wife Joy, and Loretta Brittain and husband Ronnie; grandchildren, Angie Ward and husband Kirk, Heather Lairson and husband Dean, Rhonda Hollifield and husband Andy, and Travis Lail and wife, Moira; and eight great-grandchildren, Dylan Ward, Macy Ward, Caraline Laffler, Drew Hollifield, Landon Hollifield, Harper Hollifield, Rory Lail, and Lousie Lail.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Abee’s Chapel Baptist Church with Pastor Tony Land officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Thursday prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Abee’s Chapel Baptist Church.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Mrs. Lail for about 6 years now. Her and Mr. Lail were a blessing to me. I met them inquiring about hunting there beautiful farm and have enjoyed many good conversations with them. Sad to see them pass on but glad to know they’re back together in glory.
I had the pleasure of meeting these too wonderful people and my heart just went out to both of them.
I worked through Catawba Valley Medical Services and it was nice to spend almost two years with them in their home.
I will miss them but looking forward to seeing them again in that sweet home.
