Sylvia Smith Pennington, 62, passed away on March 1, 2025, of Morganton, North Carolina following a long battle with MS.

Sylvia was born February 10, 1963 in Burke County. Sylvia spent her life in the community she called home. She was known for her deep love of animals and cherished the companionship of her pets throughout the years.

She is survived by her daughter, Heather Whisnant; her brother, Robert Smith; her sister-in-law, Ann Smith; and her nephew, Robert B. Smith. Sylvia is also survived by her partner Scott Masey. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Mary Ruth Johnson Smith.

Sylvia’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.  The family would like to express their gratitude to the hospice care team for their compassion and support during her final days.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church of Glen Alpine.
