I thought the world of Steve we were big friends at Calvary Lutheran Church, on committees together. Steve rarely missed a Sunday to usher and wile I went to Calvary we would usher together. God has called one of his angels home, although he will be missed here, heaven is his reward. Jerry W. Stevens Sr.
I worked with Steve for many years. He was always a good friend and very helpful to everyone. He will be truly missed. My prayers are with the family.
My sincere condolences to the family. Steve was a great mentor and coworker.
Ken and I are sending our love to all the family. We miss Steve and his smile and laughter.
I just heard about this today – my heart is broken. I will truly miss his talks at the mailbox – he always made me laugh. He was such a good man who took time to say hey every time he saw you. He had a strong love for his family and lit up when he was showing me pictures of their grandchildren. I love him and Beverly so much! They both always will have a special place in my heart!!!He will be missed!!! My heart goes out to his family.
My prayer is that God will wrap his arms around and give you comfort, Love you Beverly please let me know if there is anything I can do for you and your family!!!
We count Steve as a personal friend and fellow member of Calvary Lutheran. I personally observed Steve in assisting others in countless ways. He wanted little attention for the outreach. He was always cheerful and enjoyed himself at the monthly Old Man’s breakfast at Timberwoods. Heaven has gained a saint. Lord, in your mercy, be with Beverly and the surviving family and friends as they navigate the difficult grieving process.
I have known Steve since we were in the 8th grade, although our mothers said we played together in the playpen because my aunt lived close to his parents’ home. We were close friends throughout high school and college, often double dating with my then future husband. After our marriages we continued games nights with other young married couples, and Steve was Godfather to our son, Jason. In later years we would see him at LRU football games and catch up. I will always treasure our friendship and remember his smile, laugh, and our fun times together. My heart goes out to Beverly, Heather, and Kyle, and his brothers – you are all in our prayers.
Steve was the kind of neighbor everyone would want. He was always considerate and kind. My husband works nights and sleeps during the day. Steve loved his yard and kept his yard immaculate. But he would wait to mow, use the weed-eater, or mulcher until he knew my husband was awake. I don’t know anyone else that would’ve cared enough about a neighbor to do that. If he saw us working in our yard he would come to the fence to see how we were doing and offer his help. He truly lived out Matthew 7:12 “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
This world was a better place because of Steve Wilson!
My prayers are with the family for heart’s ease. May his memory be a blessing.
Beverly, losing Steve will leave a big hole in your heart and your community, but God will send other blessings to fill it. Three years ago I was at the same place, losing David after 54 years together and didn’t know how I would make it. God sent me some wonderful angels, like the guys at Jiffy Lube, who cared for my car, The guys who took over my yards and did everything, Tony and his crew who cut several large trees and of course, friends like Susan Houk. I wish I still lived close enough to help you but please know I’m praying every day for strength for you and your family. You Will make it!
I just heard this news from a friend on FB tonight. It made me so sad to hear this news. Steve and I were coworkers for many years at Century Furniture’s main office in Hickory and both attended Hickory High School. There wasn’t a day that went by that he wouldn’t stop you in the hallway to tell you some funny joke he had heard. We lost touch in the past years. He was a great guy and loved his family.
God’s blessings to his wife and family. May God bless you with his peace! So sorry for your loss.
I just heard tonight of Steve’s passing. He was a classmate at Hickory High School. I meet his lovely wife at the 40th reunion celebration. He will be missed by his classmates.
I worked with Steve at Ellis Hosiery. He was a friendly person who always had a smile and often a good joke. He will be missed. Praying for comfort and peace for his family and friends. Rest in peace friend.
Steve and I worked at Century Furniture Company for many years. He also lived in my neighborhood for many years. He has always been a great friend and great to work with. I just heard of his passing and want the family to know I am praying for them during this time. Lost contact with him for the last few years. He was a hard worker and a great friend. I know how much he loved his family and church. He will be missed.
Steve was such a wonderful man. It will be hard to imagine Calvary without him.
A man to truly admire…
I was very saddened to read of the passing of Steve, my thoughts and prayers are with the Wilson family.

A dear friend of mine that works at Century told me of Steve’s passing. I am so sad to hear this. I worked with Steve for several years at Century and he always had a smile and a joke to brighten my day. He was always encouraging me as I was working and going to LR at night studying for my undergraduate degree and raising a family. He never missed a chance to tell me it would all be worth it when I got my degree. And he was right! He was a kind, caring, and good man. Rest in peace my friend. You will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with the Wilson family in the days ahead without him that you will find peace and comfort in the wonderful memories you have of Steve. I am truly sorry for your loss.
Steve and I played on the Hickory High School football team. I remember he hit harder than anyone on the team and we all tried to avoid him during tackle practice. But he always had a smile afterwards.
My heart dropped today when I learned of Steve’s passing a while back. I always looked up to him when he played football for Hickory High School. I always enjoyed seeing him at Lenoir Rhyne football games and catching up with news. My God bless his family and cover them in peace and comfort.
