Stephen “Steve” Russell Brown, 67, of Valdese, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025, at Magnolia Lane Nursing and Rehab Center following a period of declining health.
Steve was born on September 27, 1957, in Burke County, a son of the late Buyet and Dorothy Abee Brown. He loved sports of all types, playing softball, baseball, football, and basketball. His favorite pastime was bowling.
In addition to his parents, Steve is preceded in passing by his brother, Johnny Brown.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Derek Brown; two daughters, Amber Carswell and Stephanie Wynn; a brother, Doug Brown of Connelly Springs; sister, Tracy Crump of Valdese; many grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with Malone McNeely officiating. Interment will follow the service at Burke Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2 PM to 3 PM at Heritage Funeral Service.

Worked with Steve at Broughton and bowled against him in leagues at mimosa lanes. Always enjoyed going against him as he was a hard competitor. Had to be on my game to beat him but it was always fun. Condolences to Tracy and Doug. Harrell Stines
Steve was my 1st.cousin, haven’t seen him in about 3 or 4 years,really hate to hear of his passing, prayers for Doug and Tracy,and his kids fly high cuz!!
