Mrs. Shirley Lee Mauney Benfield, 84, of Connelly Springs, passed away on Sunday December 3, 2023, at Amorem Burke Hospice, Valdese after a period of declining health.

Mrs. Benfield was born February 4, 1939 in Gaston County, a daughter of the late Richard and Doris Wickham Mauney.   She retired as a Legal Secretary and was a faithful member of Drowning Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Cindy Stovall of Connelly Springs and Tammy Russell of Straford, CN,  brother, Richard Lee Mauney, Jr of Mt. Holly and three sisters, Delores Miller of Laurens, SC, Beverly Mauney of Chapel Hill and Lynn Huffstetler of Stanley.  Also surviving are her grandchildren, Amanda Allen, Dawn Gajri, Ashlee Lonon,  great-grandchildren, Zander Allen, Milly Allen, Maya Gajri, J.J. Gajri, Kaira Cajri, Chadwick Gajri, Mathais Lonon, Memphis Lonon, and Ireland Lonon and a number of nieces and nephews.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at Drowning Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Miller officiating at a later date.
