Mrs. Sharon Lail Huffman Ware, 71, of Connelly Springs, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at her residence, after a period of declining health.
“Sherry” was born July 1, 1953, in Burke County, the daughter of the late Clay and Irene Lail of Miller Bridge Road. Sherry was a gifted pianist at an early age, able to play by ear at the age of 3. She later played piano for several area churches, including Mount Calvary Baptist, South Fork Baptist, and for twenty years at Berea Baptist Church.
Sherry graduated from Western Piedmont Community College’s Executive Secretarial Program, learning shorthand and medical dictation. Sherry felt fortunate to have made lifelong friends at Henredon Furniture and cherished her community of coworkers in her 30+ years as a medical secretary at “FIPP”, the Family, Infant, Preschool Program at Western Carolina Center. After retirement, she worked part-time as a receptionist with Vocational Rehabilitation Services.
Sherry was a devoted fan of General Hospital, watching every day when she came home from elementary school, and years later, with her daughter Brooke. Sherry loved spoiling her family with gifts and doting on her dogs Missy, Sophie, and Abby. She also never hesitated to call up a friend that she hadn’t spoken to in years just to catch up. In her later years, Sherry enjoyed the flowers on her back patio and ancestry research with her husband, Wray.
Surviving family includes her husband of 16 years, Wray Ware, originally of Kings Mountain. Sherry is also survived by her daughter, Brooke Huffman-Sipe, son-in-law Nick, and grandchildren, Nixon and Blythe Sipe of Gastonia. Sherry leaves behind her older brother, Benny Lail and his wife Gail of Morganton, and nephews, Chris and Adam Lail. During her declining health, her cousin, Derrick Lail, and longtime friend, Debi Burns, were special blessings to her.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 3PM, Sunday October 6, 2024, at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese, NC.
Funeral services will be held at 3PM, in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with Rev. Joe Barrett officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery.
An online guestbook and obituary are available at www.heritagefuneralservices.com
I really can’t believe this has happened, my heart goes out to Wray and family. She was such a wonderful and happy lady. You will not only be missed by Wray and your family, but by everyone that knew or met you. You and Wray lit up the world you were so happy together. I know you will always surround your family and take care of them. Heaven has definitely gained an awesome Angel.
So sorry to hear of Sharon’s passing. I just recently heard of her illness. My mom and her grandmother were half sisters. So sorry Brooke.
Prayers for comfort for you and the family.
I worked with Sharon many years. She was a precious person. After we retired Sharon kept in touch and I loved our talks.
I hate i can’t be there for her service. I recently had a hip replacement and can’t drive yet, but you all have been in my thoughts and prayers. God with you now and in the days ahead.
So very sorry to hear of Sherry’s passing. My sympathy to Brooke, Benny and the rest of her family. When we last spoke she was doing well and always eager to talk. She will be missed.
