Mr. Roy Nelson Patton Sr., 79, known to this family and friends as “Johnny”, was born September 29th, 1943 in Morganton, North Carolina. He attended Burke County, NC Schools and graduated from Olive Hill High School.
Roy worked for the Morganton Community House. He was also known for his partner dancing alongside his sister Barbara and many other close friends, he knew how to keep the floor moving, and enjoyed working on cars
Roy was called home to be with Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on March 17th, 2023 at Magnolia Lane Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Morganton, NC. He is survived by his sister, Barbara Ann Patton Leonard of Winston-Salem NC; two brothers, Harold Eugene Patton and Jerald Largent; his daughter; Natisha Watts of Conover NC; two nieces, Chelii Mona Broussard and Felecya Charmaine Leonard of Winston-Salem; a number of nephews; four grandsons, James Nelson Fields of Morganton NC, Jason Fields of Statesville NC, Joshua Fields of Boston MA, and Shawn Woods of Hickory NC; two granddaughters, Lakendra Gore of Gastonia NC, and Santil White of Hickory NC, a number of great-grandchildren and great-grand nieces and nephews, cousins, relatives, and many, many friends.
Roy was proceeded in death by his mother, Hattie Elizabeth Patton Glenn; his father, JD Largent; his wife, Sonja D. Patton; his son Roy Nelson Patton Jr. (Nancy Turner) and his brother, John Wilson Patton.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with Rev. James Rutherford officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 PM to 2 PM.
Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory in Valdese is assisting the family.

My sincere condolence to Roy’s family. He was always so nice and pleasant and a great classmate. One could not help but love him. I always enjoyed watching him dance and he did not disappoint when he “performed” a very nice dance routine at our last class reunion. He will surly be missed. Rest in Heaven now Roy.

I was saddened to hear about the passing of my longtime friend. I will forever remember Johnny for his kind heart, his respect and manners, also his musical and dance talents. You have my deepest sympathy in this time of sorrow. May His soul be at eternal peace.

Broke my heart when I first learned of Roy Nelson’s passing. He was always like family to me!! Loved him dearly and yes, he was the best dancer in Morganton along with his sister Barbara. May he RIHP until we meet again. Sending my love and condolences to the family!
