In his twelve years there he made many friends. When he moved to NC in 2018, he was employed at Walmart in Hickory where he thoroughly enjoyed his position.
Roy’s great joy in life was serving seventeen years as a volunteer firefighter with the Washington Boro District (now Blue Rock Rescue, Station #907). He was an avid collector of model trains, an area in which he held expertise. Roy enjoyed Freedom High School Patriot basketball teams, in Morganton, NC and he rarely missed a game.
Survivors are his sister, Peggy Lee Keagy Watford of Thomasville, a brother Larry Keagy of Valdese, a brother-in-law Fred Epeley of Valdese, two nieces and one great-niece, as well as numerous cousins and friends from Pennsylvania, Florida, and North Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Blue Rock Fire Rescue, Station # 907, 11 Charlestown Road, Washington Boro, Pennsylvania 17582.
On his birthday, June 30th, 2024, a private Celebration of Life will be held for him by his family on the Blue Ridge Parkway, not far from his home in Valdese, NC.
I found out about my dear friend Roy weeks after he had passed. I enjoyed working with Roy at the Walmart in Hickory. I will miss him dearly he was so sweet and nice. Prayers to the family
Roy drove me to church as a child. My parents didn’t.
He never asked for a penny. It changed my life. On my wedding day, he drove limo to the church for me to be married. Again, he never ever asked for a penny. I am eternally grateful for his generosity and kindness. It changed my life!! I’m so sorry to hear of his passing but his family should know how generous he was to this teenager when I wanted to go to church but my family would not take me..
Eternally grateful, Alicia Shields Clearwater, Fl
