Rev. Richard Baxter Hudson, 67, of Hickory, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 17, 2025, at his residence.
Rick was born on June 9, 1957, in Burke County to the late Baxter Fonzo Hudson and Doris Jean Brittain Hudson. He retired from the NCDOT and worked as a healthcare technician for Broughton Hospital for 12 years as well. Rick received his ministerial degree form West Lenoir School of Ministry and was the current pastor serving at Henry River Baptist Church in Hildebran. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who will be greatly missed by his family, friends and church congregation.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Richard Dean Hudson, his grandparents, Richard Jenkins and Isabel Brittain, father in-law, Harold Dean Lowman Sr., brother in-law, Wayne D. Lowman and a very special nephew, Jason William Hudson.
Surviving is his beloved wife Debora Lowman Hudson of the home, two sons, Benjamin Hudson and wife Elizabeth of Valdese, Phillip Hudson and wife Angela of Fayetteville, and one daughter, Jessica Hudson-Slaughter of Hickory. Also surviving are four sisters, Amy Hudson, Angela Woody, Beth Hudson and husband Allen, and Connie Moore, his grandchildren: Madelyn Hudson, William Hudson, Nadia Hudson (Parker Whitmire), Maria Eduarda Gomes Chabuh, Journey Palacios and husband Nathaniel, one great-grandchild, Lumiere Hudson, mother in-law, Margaret Hildebran Lowman, brother in-law, Harold Dean Lowman Jr. and wife Cheryl, sister in-law, Benita Lowman, special sister, Cheryl Hughes, and very special family members, Elizabeth, Alex and Mason Piercy, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at 3:00 P.M. at St. John’s Baptist Church, with Rev. Eldon Hinegardner, Rev. Tony Dyson and Rev. James Bumgarner officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 1:30 until 3:00 P.M at St. John’s Baptist Church.

Rick was always one of the sweetest souls I’ve known. What a loss for us but what gain for him. I know he is with his beloved Lord now and feeling amazing!
