Mr. Randy Dean Huffman, 65, of Hickory, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at his residence.
Randy was born on January 11, 1959 in Catawba County to Margaret White Griffin and the late George Harvey Huffman. He was a member of Bethel United Church of Christ.
Randy enjoyed many years working for Classic Moving and Storage and Boyles Furniture. Many of his best memories and lifelong friendships began there, including meeting the love of his life, Karen. In more recent years, he joined Lowe’s Home Improvement until he finally snagged that job he had been searching for his whole life – Retirement. Notwithstanding, Lowe’s relentless pursuit in keeping Randy on their part-time team finally paid off. The deal was made and the rest is history.
If you’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing Randy, you’ve no doubt experienced his sense of humor. There truly was never a dull moment. If you’ve ever crossed paths with Randy, you’ll have a story to tell. His quick witted humor had no match, and he knew the language of sarcasm far too well.
His unconventional handyman skills were an endearing quality that became infamous to his family. From his handmade candy carnival carousel, to his duck taped zip lines, the beautiful washing machine birdbath, and countless other contraptions, we found out nothing ever had to be purchased as long as Randy was around. Known as the “king of duck tape” there was never a project he wouldn’t take on as long as it was for his kids or grandchildren. Bottom line, he loved his family fiercely. The sacrifices he made were many, yet you would never hear a complaint – Randy was a man who exemplified the word humble.
Finally, Randy spent a lot of his time taking care of his family but also enjoyed strumming the guitar and going fishing with his “brother” Bill. As long as he had a cold Sundrop, and a pack of Pall Mall nearby he was pretty content……just don’t interrupt his NFL football games.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a stepfather, Leroy Griffin.
Surviving in addition to his mother, is his beloved wife, Karen Crowe Huffman of the home, four children: Jessica Cascio and husband Adam of Wilmington, NC, Grace Whitener and husband Daniel of Lenoir, Blake Greene of Lenoir, and Emily Greene of Morganton. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Arianna Grubbs, Roman Cascio, Victoria Cascio and Kamryn Greene, his brother, Johnny Huffman and wife Robin of Hickory, two uncles, Dennis and Zeb White, special cousin, Chad Michael Jarrett, and numerous other relatives.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 12, 2024 at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, with Rev. Rick Miller officiating.
The family will receive friends on Monday, from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.

Karen, I am so heartbroken for you. Randy was such a wonderful kind person who always left a bright spot in my day. I pray for comfort, peace and strength in the days ahead for you and your family.
From all I have heard about Randy this past week, you can tell he was one heck of a good person. I knew him 45 years ago. He was the same way back then. So the caliber of this man never changed. God speed Randy. My sympathy to his family snd friend. Remember the good times you had with him. He will never be forgotten.
I absolutely loved working with Randy at the furniture Mart. He was like a brother to me. I am so sad to hear this news and lifting the family up for God‘s comfort and great memories to sustain you all🙏
What can I say about Randy? The best way to describe him is he was simply a cool guy. With a lot of patience. He’d rig something up using his Mcgeyver skills in a minute. Didn’t matter what it was he’d figure out a way to make it work. I really liked Randy a lot. I know I let him down a time or two. I wish I could tell him again that I am sorry. He was truly a good dude. He’ll be missed. I choose to believe that he lives on & will live forever! Not in the vehicle he was driving but a new vehicle that will never need fixing. No pain. No more sorrows. Beauty & happiness in the most perfect way that our minds can’t even fathom the place God has made for him. Just thinkabout it, he’s seen the face of Jesus.
Karen I am so sorry for your loss. Randy was a dear man and I know he loved you so much! My prayers are with you and your family.
I am sending our condolences to the Huffman family. Yes, a good man. My husband and I lived beside of Randy when I was pregnant in 1981 on the Lake and there was never a dull moment. Randy also taught my son Karate. Randy, he would give you his shirt off his back and with a smile saying “Don’t Worry about it!” We will continue to pray for the family and friends.
