Reverend, Dr. Randall Scott Good, lover of life, family and friends met the loving arms of Jesus Thursday, October 10, 2024.

Scott was born on November 25, 1945 in Mitchell County to the late Richmond and Ilean Gunter Good. After graduating from Hildebran High School in 1964 he attended Kings Business College. He took a break from school to work with his father in the family hosiery mill. At that time Scott was called to the ministry. He graduated from Gardner Webb University and then attended Southern Seminary where he received his Masters. He went on to receive his Doctorate at Drew University. He served churches in Sanders, Kentucky, Independence, Virginia, Butner, NC and then finally in Chesapeake, VA. Scott was a faithful servant of God and served in many capacities as a minister the remainder of his life. During his years of ministry he became a State Farm Agent and had a very successful career for 32 years.

Scott had a very successful career, but his biggest accomplishment was his family. He married his beloved Barbara Fowler on October 23, 1965. Their commitment and love for one another afforded them 59 years of marriage. Building their family, working, serving the Lord, and traveling were priorities in their lives. Scott was a proud and loving father to his three boys and even more of his 5 grandchildren.

He had many hobbies and loyalties. He was a lover of old cars and spent much time at his “Headquarters” which was a museum of cars and collections. He had an annual car show where 100s of cars came to be displayed. At this event he raised money for various charities. He was very active and on the board of the North Carolina Baptist Foundation, the board of the Grace Chapel Fire Department and the Gardner Webb Christian Service Organization just to name a few.

Scott was preceded by his parents and his brothers, Wilkie and Alan Good.

In addition to his wife, Barbara, are his cherished sons, Tim Good (Susan), Stacy Good (Lauren), and Josh Good. Other loved ones are his sister Lisa Good (Denver), brother-in-law Butch Fowler (Teresa) and many nieces and nephews. His grandchildren: Matts, Forbes, Griffin, T and Catherine Scott were the apples of his eye. Scott, affectionately referred to as “Papa” and “Big Guy” drove all over for soccer, football, baseball, basketball, rugby, dance, piano recitals and much much more. He was never happier than when friends and family were on the lake at “Good Timz.”

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday October 20, 2024 at 3:00pm. The service will be at First Baptist Church in Hickory, NC and will be live streamed at http://www.hickoryfbc.org

The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
