Myra Christine Powell Fortenberry, 67, of Morganton, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at her residence, following a period of declining health.
Myra was born on October 26, 1956, in Burke County to the late Vernon Jackson Powell and Shirley Ann Fox Powell. She was previously employed at Alba Waldensian Hosiery, and in later years at Hickory Hill in the upholstery department. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who enjoyed playing bingo, going to the Valdese car cruise- in, and dressing up as Elvis for Halloween.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Roger Powell and Buck Powell, and one sister, Loretta Powell.
Surviving is her longtime partner, Willam Scott Johnson of Morganton, her daughter, Amy Ramos and husband William of Morganton, four grandchildren, Corey Lee Carswell, Haley Tiara Fox and husband Eli, Gabriel Phoenix Ramos and Israel William Ramos, and two great-grandchildren, Kiah James Carswell and Ella Ruth Fox. Also surviving are three sisters, Evelyn Russell, Gladys Schultz, and Patsy Cross, one brother, Gary Powell, and a number of foster grandchildren, nieces and nephews, whose lives she impacted greatly.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 12:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, with Rev. Micah Piercy officiating.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.

I remember Myra from my Alba Waldension days. She was always so sweet and a hard worker. Her brother Gary and i were pretty tight back then.
