Michael Homer Buchanan, 71, of Morganton, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center following a brief period of declining health.
Michael was born August 27, 1952 in Catawba County to Grace Dellinger Buchanan and the late Tarp H. Buchanan. Michael was well known and loved by everyone at J. Iverson Riddle; he always enjoyed his back and head rubs and laughing. You could usually find him listening to his music, but it had to have a good beat to it. Michael always responded to his momma’s voice with a big grin; he will be missed by many.
In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his brother, Phillip Dean Buchanan.
He is survived by his brothers, Dennis Lee Buchanan Sr., and Mark Anthony Buchanan; nieces, Briana Ferguson, Lisa Walker, Lori Bollinger; nephews, Dennis Buchanan Jr., Jeremy Duckworth and Eric Duckworth; great-nephews, Kenyen, Ethan, and Preston; great-nieces, Haven and Coral; and sister-in-law, Debbie Buchanan.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Dwayne Buchanan, Pastor Daniel Buchanan, and Rev. Anthony Ferguson officiating. Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Park.
Michael will lie-in-state at Heritage Funeral Service on Thursday, prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM.
Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory in Valdese is assisting the family.
