Melissa Louise Sorber-Childers, 44, of Valdese, passed away unexpectedly as a result of an accident that occurred on Thursday, November 2, 2023, also claiming the life of her husband, Ryan Childers.
Melissa was born April 6, 1979, in Pennsylvania, to Russel Sorber and the late Ellen Shaw Sorber.
In addition to her mother, Ellen Shaw Sorber, she is preceded in death by husband, Ryan Childers; and infant son, Ryder Childers.
She is survived by sons, Joseph Russel Newhart, Ryan Alexander “Alex” Childers and Samuel Dean Childers; father, Russel Sorber; sisters, Amy Potavin (Timothy), Robin Sorber and Lisa Young (Joseph); brother, Jon Sorber; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins who loved her.
A memorial service celebrating the lives of Melissa and Ryan, will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at Bollinger’s Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Freddy Williams, Rev. Devin Hildebran and Rev. Steve Pickard officiating. Inurnment will take place in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M., Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Bollinger’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
