Ms. Mary Jean Hayes Yoder, 83, of Hickory, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center after a period of declining health.
Mary was born November 25, 1940, in Caldwell County, NC, to the late Ernest Hayes and Georgia Miller Hayes. She was a familiar face around Caldwell Memorial Hospital, having been a secretary for 28 years. Her loved ones will always remember her as a genuine person who loved the Lord and her devotion to her family. Mary always made time for bible study, watching the Hallmark Channel and The Voice.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Ray “Dude” Yoder; brothers, David Hayes, Jim Hayes and Eddie Hayes as well as her special canine companion, Cindy.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Jennifer Scott; granddaughter, Heather Scott; great grandchildren, Brendon Nicholas, Elizabeth Parker, and Jemma Parker; sister, Linda Hayes Hollars and husband Billy; loyal canine companions, Jasmine and Ruthie.
Funeral services for Mary Jean Hayes Yoder, will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at Faith Olive Baptist Church with Rev. Arthur Yount officiating. Interment will follow at the Faith Olive Baptist Church cemetery.
The Family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, at Faith Olive Baptist Church.

I have such fond memories of Mary, Aunt Georgia and you coming to papaw and granny’s farmhouse. We all met there regularly and had meals together and played around the farm. Those were such special family moments that will forever remain in my heart. Love and prayers for you and the family.
My sweet Jenny, we have so many family times together with precious memories I cherish. The last time I saw her you guys came by to see mama and I cut her hair. That picture pops up on my memories and takes me back to that day. Mama really enjoyed you guys coming to see her. Cherish your memories. She is at peace now. Love you I am here if ever need me.
