Mary Dean Blankenship Childress, 81, of Morganton, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2024 at College Pines Health and Rehabilitation following a period of declining health.
Mary was born on May 2, 1943 in McDowell County, a daughter of the late, Grady Macon Blankenship and Ola Mae McIntosh Blankenship.
In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in passing by her husband, Walter Clint Childress, Sr., and siblings, Roy Lee Blankenship, Virginia Anderson, Lucile Robinson, and Elouise Ratcliff.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Clint Childress, Jr. (Lisa), Richard Metcalf (Jolena), Tracy Childress Smith, and Kenneth Childress (Lori); siblings, Norma Blankenship Woody (Rick), Ann Blankenship Gregory (Joe), and Inez Blankenship Mann (JW); grandchildren, Chris Childress, Cody Childress, Samantha Lunsford, Kristen Hendrix, Jennifer Griffen (Jon), Tabitha Buff, Tommy Metcalf (Sonja), Carson Childress, Alex Wright, Jeremiah Wright, and fourteen greatgrandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service at 1 PM with Rev. Marvin Wiley officiating.
Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory is assisting the family.
