Martha Faye Setzer Lail, 88, of Morganton, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Mission Hospital in Asheville, following a period of declining health.
Faye was born January 7, 1935 in Burke County to the late Lenoir Alexander Setzer and Mary Hallyburton Setzer. She was a faithful member of Pleasant View Baptist Church and loved to tell others about Jesus. Faye enjoyed reading her Bible, sewing, and giving back to her community and helping people.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Howard L. Shirlen; infant daughter; brother LA; and sisters, Mary Ellen and Ann.
She is survived by her daughters, Shelah Lail Brown, Linda Jo Blankenship, Vickie Lail, and Susan Lail Keller and husband Darrell; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother, Albert Setzer and wife Pat; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Pleasant View Baptist Church on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at 2:00 PM with Dr. Rex Shaver officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant View Baptist Church at 1834 Hwy 70 East, Morganton, NC 28655.
Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory in Valdese is assisting the family.

Faye was a High School classmate, member if the same church, friend and neighbor for a time. She will be greatly missed. My sympathy to all the family. Precious memories.

danced with us, and many others, at the Senior Center. Had such good times.

Faye was a super person and will be missed. I knew her and Howard from the Dance Class at the Senior Center and we always had fun. Sympathy to the family.
