Ms. Maggie Mae Turner Smith, 93, of Hickory, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024, at Hickory Falls Health and Rehab following a period of declining health.
Maggie was born on July 7, 1931, in Caldwell County, a child of the late Glenn and Ethel Mae Turner. She had a passion for cooking and gardening. She loved getting together with her family on Sunday afternoons.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in passing by a daughter, Robin Smith.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Stephen Smith (Billi) and grandchildren, Kaylee Travis, Sara Allen, and Keri Smith, Pamela Smith (Reggie Beard) and granddaughter, Melanie Hefner, and Jeffrey Smith (Norma Smith) and grandchildren, Jeffrey Smith, Tiffany Smith, Joshua Smith, and Nicole Smith, and Robin’s children, Shaun Singletary and Shannon Smith; many greatgrandchildren; siblings, Bill Turner, Dave Turner, Hazel Halliburton, Paul Turner, Tommy Turner, and Sue Turner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 2, 2024, at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with Rev. Marvin Wiley officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery.

Maggie was mom ‘s best friend and sister . We moved out of town when we were very young , but visited often . Each trip back to NC always started with my Aunt “Red” as we called her . So many memories of her , my cousin Steve, Jeff, Pam and Robin . I am truly blessed to have had her in my life

So sorry to hear about our aunt passing, I only have fond memories of her even though I haven’t seen her in years, my dad her brother Bill thought a lot of his sister Red and only spoke kindly of her, my prayers and condolences to her family during this time of loss of a beloved mother and sister
I had the pleasure to help take care of Maggie at Autumn Care and Hickory Falls! She was so funny. She will be greatly missed. I’m sorry for yalls loss.
I had the joy of meeting Steve and Jeff earlier this year and was able to visit Aunt Red. It was all a pleasure hanging with you both and your spouses. Just wish I could of known her in her younger years.
