Larry Aldon Powell, 79, of Morganton, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at Amorem Hospice following a period of declining health.
Larry was born July 23, 1944 in Burke County to the late Roy E. Powell and Elease Abernathy Powell. He was a member of Mt. Home Baptist Church and worked as a brick mason until retirement. In his free time, he loved to go hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Stephen Powell and Randall “Randy” Powell.
He is survived by his wife of forty-two years, Carolyn Branch Powell; son, Curtis Powell and wife Rena; daughter, Kim Byrd and husband Kenny; step-daughter, Leslie Dover and husband Brooks; and step-son, Ken Helms. Also surviving are grandchildren, Ashley Powell, Elizabeth Walker, Caroline Byrd, Cayla Byrd, and Brooks Dover Jr., great-grandchildren, Stephen Blish, and Zane Byrd; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Mt. Home Baptist Church with Rev. John Conrad officiating. Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, prior to the service.

Carolyn and family, Frank and I are saddened by the passing of Larry but Heaven is rejoicing! We prayed for healing but God gave him a different healing!! We enjoyed being in our Sunday School class at Mount Home with him as he was always so jovial and a friend to all! We are so thankful that God allowed our paths to cross in this life!!
