Kenneth Wayne “Ken” Powell, 66,of Icard lost his battle with cancer on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Amorem Hospice in Burke County.

Ken was born July 29, 1956 in Valdese, NC to Irneta Buff Powell  and the late Clifford “Pete” Powell. He was a machinist all his life and it eventually turned into him owning his own business. Ken was an avid fisherman, and loved to hunt and camp. The outdoors was his favorite place to be. He was an excellent gardener and loved playing with his grandkids. He loved telling jokes and telling stores about the good old days.

In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his brother, Randy Powell.

He is survived by his mother, Irneta Powell; sisters, Wanda Bumgarner and husband Ed, and Sandra Laney; brother, Tracy Powell and wife Renée; daughter, Crystal Goodwin and husband Chris; longtime companion Sylvia Trivette and bonus daughter, Crystal Short and husband James; and grandchildren, Dakota Goodwin, Cheyenne Goodwin, and Parker Short and many special nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 6:00 PM in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with Rev. Jimmy Duffey and Rev. Ken Houston officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Saturday at Heritage Funeral Service.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the oncology nurses at Catawba Valley Medical Center and the nurses and staff at Amorem Hospice in Burke County.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Amorem Hospice at 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690.
