It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Karen Elaine Smith Killian, age 58, of Valdese, NC, on December 17, 2024. Born on September 23, 1966, Karen was a loving mother, devoted sister, and loyal friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Betty Barnes Smith and Charles Manuel Smith Jr. Karen’s kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for her family and friends will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.

Karen is survived by her cherished daughter, Trinity Killian, and Trinity’s boyfriend, Preston White. She also leaves behind her sisters, Beverly Watson, Rita Pope (husband David Pope), and Debbie Fortenberry (husband Bill Fortenberry), as well as her brother, Shannon Smith (wife Shelly Smith). She was a devoted sister, aunt, and great-aunt, and her family was always at the center of her life. In addition to her immediate family, Karen was particularly close to her nephew, Remo, and his daughter, Makenzie, both of whom she loved deeply. Karen’s special bond with them brought her great joy. Karen’s best friend, Hope, was also a central part of her life, and their friendship brought immense comfort and happiness to her. Karen’s ability to offer love, support, and kindness will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday at 3:00 P.M. at Calvary Memorial Gardens in Connelly Springs, with Rev. Freddy Lindsey officiating.
