Mrs. Joyce Yvonne Woodie Quarles, 79, of Valdese passed away following a brief illness on Monday, January 23, 2023 at her residence.
Mrs. Quarles was born on Spetember 16, 1943, in Burke County a daughter of the late Dent Woodie and Wilma Powell Woodie Dean. She was a member of Morganton First Church of God.
She is preceded in passing by her parents, stepfather, Marvin Dean, and a stepbrother, Kip Dean.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Max Elam Quarles of Valdese; son, Marcus (Annette) Quarles of Morganton; daughter, Marcie (Jason) Callicutt of Huntersville; stepbrother, Dennis (Beverly) Dean of Georgia; sisters, Patricia Hurxthal of Melbourne, Florida, Sherry (Dean) Rollo of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and Sheila (Bill) Powell of Germantown, Tennessee; grandchildren, Austin Quarles, Kailee Quarles, Matthew Callicutt, and Nathan Callicutt; and a great granddaughter on the way.
A Receiving of Friends will be held Friday, January 27, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Service. Entombment will follow at Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Amorem at 902 Kirkwood Ave. NW, Lenoir, NC 28645.

I am so sorry to hear about Joyce’s passing. She was such a sweet, precious and lovely lady! I always enjoyed seeing her and talking with her. Heaven gained a very special angel. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers and love all of you!

Joyce became a special friend from the first time we met in Melbourne, Florida. I cherished our friendship. Wonderful person. You will be missed Joyce. RIP sweet Joyce.
