Joyce Ann Callender Brittain Huffman, 86, of Hickory, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at Catawba Valley Medical Center following a period of declining health.
Joyce was born on February 25, 1938, a daughter of the late John Marvin Callender and Mary Evelyn Callender Smith. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and aunt. Joyce was a school secretary at Icard Elementary for over twenty years until her retirement. She was also a proud cancer survivor and a faithful member of Viewmont Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in passing by a brother, John Callender; nephew, Michael Smith; and her beloved cat, Onyx Huffman.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Gary A. Huffman; two sons, C. Alex (Michelle) Brittain of Hildebran and Kevin E. (Caryn) Brittain of Hildebran; one sister, Emma C. Smith of Valdese; one granddaughter, Sharnell (Ethan) Freedlund of Hawaii; two grandsons, Justin A. (Jordan) Brittain of Hildebran and Matthew Ryan (Hannah) Brittain of Hildebran; three great granddaughters, Ella Freedlund, Blakeleigh Brittain, and Blaikleh Phillips; a stepson, Rick Huffman of Concord; a stepdaughter, Tracey (Ron) Kerber of Clover, SC; and three step grandchildren, Carly Huffman, Craig Phillips, and Lindsey Phillips; niece, Shannon Smith; and nephews, Dennis Callender, Scott (Leah) Callender, and Bob (Tammi) Callender.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024 at 1 PM at Viewmont Baptist Church of Hickory with Rev. Dr, Andrew Rawls officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Viewmont Baptist Church from 12 PM to 1 PM.
Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory is assisting the family.
