Mr. John Thomas Shimpock Jr., 88, of Morganton, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Aston Park Healthcare Center in Asheville, following a period of declining health.

John was born on October 30, 1935, in Burke County to the late John Shimpock Sr. and Evelyne Abee Shimpock. John was a long-time member of Mount Gilead Baptist Church and was a faithful member until his sickness. He loved his church and church family. He was a retired truck driver, short and long hauls for over 55 years. John loved driving trucks and the many friendships he made over the years. John loved his country and was proud of his service as a US Marine. He served during the Korean Conflict as a combat engineer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two daughters, Kimberly Shimpock and Marisa Shimpock Harmon.

He is survived by his wife, Mozelle Towery Shimpock of the home, daughters, Christie Tewes (Rob), Sherri Durango (Charles); son, Tommy Shimpock (Sheila); son-in-law, Steven Harmon; and numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 14, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Mount Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Randy Cook officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Marine Corp.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the many staff members at Autumn Care in Drexel, NC and Aston Park Health Care Center in Asheville, NC, who cared for John during his residency with them and to Four Seasons Hospice in Hendersonville, NC.

Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory in Valdese is assisting the family.
