Mr. John Thomas Carswell, 88, of Connelly Springs, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023 at his residence, following a period of declining health.
John was born on May 1, 1935 in Catawba County to the late Logan Carswell and Emmer Watts Carswell. He was a member of Guiding Light Baptist Church and was retired from Century Furniture.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Bailey Carswell, daughter, Brenda Leigh Carswell, nine sisters, and three brothers.
Survivors include, two daughters, Lisa Barnes and husband Scott, and Kay Norris. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Joshua Barnes, Ashley Erich and husband Pierce, Kaitlyn Frady and husband John, Donna Whittington and husband Plaz, and Holly Norris, his precious great-grandchildren, Lily, Emily, Charlee, Eli and Luke, Bailey, Madison, Will and wife Nebraska, Savannah and Brantley, his special friends, John and Sharon Robbins, and his grand puppy Cooper.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, with Rev. Dustin Peterson and Rev. Steve Coonse officiating. Interment will follow at Warlick’s Baptist Church Cemetery in Connelly Springs.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, from 11:00 until 1:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.

Uncle Tom was a character, my dad got a kick out of him, mom loved her brothers. Just an all around good person
If you needed some wisdom, if you needed a laugh or just to talk, uncle Tom was the one to go to. And always, he was there for me and my family. He loved my Momma. Our fun trips together with Aunt Bessie are some of my best memories. I will miss you always. Much love to you Lisa and family.

Tom was a good example of a Christian man He loved everone and helped everone we are gonna miss him but we know he is rejoicing with the lord and Bessie he missed her so much now they will be together in heaven for eternity
