Mr. John Allen Abernathy, 78, of Glen Alpine, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Amorem, Burke Hospice, after a period of declining health.
Mr. Abernathy was born April 17, 1946, in Burke County, a son of the late James Everette and Mary Alice Pitts Abernathy. He was a retired electrician and served his country as member of the US Army. He enjoyed going to different locations and trying his luck at the lottery. He didn’t get rich in money, but he received riches in enjoyment.
Surviving are his children, Vanna A. Baldazo of Spartanburg, SC, Kala Abernathy of Morganton, step-son, Brian Hollifield of Pueblo, CO and best friend, his former wife, Jeri Hollifield of Morganton. Also surviving are three brothers, Tim, Phillip and David Abernathy, twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A Service of Remembrance will be held Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 3:00 PM at the Glen Alpine First Baptist Church.

Johnny was on tough guy. He was a lot of fun to be around. I remember him fondly from high school. A very tough fullback. Life treated Johnny tough but then he would never have it any other way. He enjoyed life to fullest.

So very sorry about the passing of Johnny .I have known him for years ,a great guy Johnny did not die he just changed addresses. He is now experiencing all the joy of heaven. Our minds can only imagine what he is experiencing. The family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers.
