Rev. Jerald Thomas Howard Sr., 88, of Hickory, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024 at Carolina Rehab following a period of declining health.
Jerald was born June 1, 1936 in Lincoln County, Georgia to the late William Thomas Howard and Louise Johnson Howard. He served as a pastor for the Missionary Methodist and Wesleyan Church for 28 years and honorably served in the United States Navy and Navy Reserve from 1955-1963. Jerald loved his children and grandchildren very much.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Louise Cook Howard; brothers, Larry Joe Howard and Douglas Howard; and sister, Gwen Howard Thomas.
He is survived by his children, Tammy Howard McKinney and husband, Gary, of Burlington, Jerald Thomas Howard Jr. and wife, Phyllis, of Rhodhiss, Rebecca Howard Merhi of Vale, Elizabeth Howard Brittain and husband, Dale, of Hickory, and Timothy Hadrick Howard of Hickory; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and one on the way; and sister, Juanell Howard Cook.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 22, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Hickory Bethel Wesleyan Church Cemetery, with Rev. Mark Shrum officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Navy.
