Jack Abernathy, 88, of Connelly Springs, departed his earthly home and went to his Heavenly Home on Wednesday April 2, 2025, after a brief illness.
Mr. Abernathy was born June 29, 1936, in Burke County, a son of the late George Sutton and Mary Carswell Abernathy. Jack was a faithful and active member of Mount Hebron Baptist Church. He loved his over 50 years teaching Sunday School and he especially enjoyed the time spent with the youth of the church. Jack served in many positions in the church and his love for his church family has sustained him through the years.
Jack served his country as a Veteran of the US Navy from 1953 until 1957. He was proud to be a Shellback. Prior to his retirement as Maintenance Supervisor at Regal Mfg. he started a tool business where he met many dear friends. He also loved his “Breakfast Buddies” at B & B.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of almost 63 years, Ailene “Susie” Lail Abernathy, three siblings, Thelma Teague, Virginia Dowell and Don Abernathy, nephews Scott Teague, and Keith Church, and great nephews, Brett Dellinger, and Tyler Bolden.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Patty Moody and husband Tim, Sisters, Linda Young (Steve), Carolyn Bolden (Johnny), Brothers, George Abernathy, Jr., Neill Abernathy and brother-in-law, Roy Lail. Also surviving are the apples of his eye, his grandchildren, Ashley Gallion (Brandon), Tim Moody, Jr (Hayley) and great-grandchildren, Jack Moody, Bennett Moody and McKinley Gallion, and a number of nieces and nephews who he loved very much.
Funeral Services for Jack Abernathy will be held at 4:00 P.M. Sunday April 6, 2025, in the Mount Hebron Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Eric James officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Mount Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 4:00 P.M. Sunday at Mount Hebron Baptist Church.

Jack was an absolute gem we talked a lot over breakfast at BB he will be missed by many such a great human and a wonderful friend .

Oh how we all loved this man! He was an awesome mentor and friend. We can rejoice in knowing he is with his Lord and Savior today! He will certainly be missed during our time left here.
