Mrs. Irneta “Nete” Buff Powell, 94, of Icard, passed away on Friday September 20, 2024 at Amorem Hospice of Valdese, following a period of declining health.
Irneta was born on September 10, 1930 in Cleveland County to the late Ben Buff and Maude Tallent Buff. She went to Banoak School and was a retired seamer in the hosiery industry. She was a longtime member of Shoup’s Grove Baptist Church, and considered by her neighbors to be the Mayor of East Burke Blvd. Irneta especially loved her family and enjoyed spending time with all of them. Sunday lunch was a priority at Maw Maw’s house with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford “Pete” Powell, two sons, Randy and Ken Powell, and six brothers: Willard, Ual, Dee, Odell, Lynn and Buford Buff.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Wanda Bumgarner (Ed), Sandra Laney, and Tracy Powell (Renee), her grandchildren; Michael Laney (Jody), Crystal Goodwin (Chris), Christopher Powell (Angela), Cliff Laney (John), Josh Laney (Cassie), Leveda Ritch (Thaddeus), Robyn Erath, J.J. Erath, and Myranda Yates (Larry). Also surviving are her great-grandchildren; Aristin, Paige, Dakota, Whittier, Cheyenne, Lily, Phoeynx, Annabelle, Waylon, Maverick and Georgia Mae. Special niece, Donna Kay Landis and special neighbor, Von Strickland.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 23, 2024 at 5:30 PM with Rev. J.C. Bradley officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Monday, from 4:00 until 5:30 P.M. at Shoup’s Grove Baptist Church.

I will never forget Aunt Nete and her sweet smile and eyes that lit up when she looked at you. Her love for her family was beyond great. She was so loved and embraced in love that nurtured her to go forward in hard times and good times. Tell everyone we love and miss them. Until I see you in heaven, I will never forget you from my childhood memories on. I love you, Aunt Nete.

I did not know Mrs. Powell personally but I knew several of her brothers while working at Sharpe Motor Lines of Hildebran, NC.
