Mrs. Irene Shook Queen, 92, of Valdese, went to her Heavenly Home on Friday November 17, 2023, at College Pines Nursing Center, after a period of declining health.

Mrs. Queen was born January 20, 1931, in Burke County, a daughter of the late, Russell Richard and Mae Etta Huffman Shook.  Irene was a charter member of United Baptist Church and remained very active as long as her health would allow her.  She retired from Drexel Heritage Furniture Co. after many years of service.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Jennings Queen, a daughter and son in law, Sandy and Lynn Powell, brothers, Roy Oneil Shook (Duck), Claude Shook and Russell Shook, Jr. (Buck) and sisters, Margie Stirewalt, Hazel Keever, Lucy Watson and grandson, Randy Stuart (Pokey) Queen, Jr..

Surviving, are , sons, Randy Queen, William Dean Queen, daughters, Lisa Queen Swink (Ron) and Tracy Queen Mangum (Stephen) and sister, Ethel Shook Andrews (Andy).  Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Scott Powell (Jodi), Chad Powell (Amy), Connie Queen Rummel (Jason), R.J. Mozeley (Daphne), Jenny Mozeley Lankford (Chris), Jake Hunter Queen, Ryan Jennings Mangum (Nicole), Michaela Nichole Mangum and sixteen great-grandchildren, one soon to be and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Irene Shook Queen will be held at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday November 21, 2023, at United Baptist Church, with Rev. Steve Mathews and Rev. Steve Mangum officiating.  Interment will follow in the Burke Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 2 until 3:00 P.M. Tuesday at United Baptist Church.

Active Pallbearers will be Ron Shuffler, Jeff Franklin, Vance Blackburn, Jeff Johnson, Doug Powell and Sherrill Keever. Honorary Pallbearers will be Steve Ramsey, Mark Berry, Randy Smith and Ron Williams.
