Mr. Harold Franklin Childres Sr., 89, of Hildebran passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at his home, following a period of declining health.

Harold was born October 31, 1933 in Burke County to the late Bela Franklin Childres and Minnie Mull Childres. He served honorably in the United States Army and was a faithful, active member at Open Door (Penelope) Baptist Church serving on many committees. Harold enjoyed volunteering at Longview School, playing music with his grandson, and watching any Duke sport.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Paul Benjamin Childres; brothers, Rondel G. Childres, Eugene Childres and wife Shirley, David G. Childres, and Roger V. Childres; sisters, Arlene Morris and husband Alvie, and Mary Wilson; and nephew, Eric Childres.

He is survived by his wife Maxine Moore Childres; sons, Harold Franklin “Hal” Childres Jr., Wesley Stewart Childres, and Dale Cameron Childres; grandchildren, Lillian “Lily” Childres and Nathan Isaac Childres; sister, Anita Rhoney; brother-in-law, Jim Wilson; and sisters-in-law, Peggy Childres and Rose Ann Childres. Also surviving are nieces, Karen Robinson, Kathy Collins, Debbie Seabock, and Susan Colbert; and nephews, Jon Childres, Jeffrey Childres, Carl Childres, Mark Childres, Charles Rhoney, Barry Rhoney, Don Rhoney, Ashley Rhoney, Alan Childres, Andy Childres, Jimmie Wilson, and Kent Wilson.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Open Door (Penelope)Baptist Church with Pastor Shawn Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Granite Falls.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the church.
