Gilbert James Carswell, 69, of Morganton, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at UNC Blue Ridge following a brief illness.

Gilbert was born January 20, 1955 in Burke County to the late Paul James Carswell and June Carswell. He was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church and worked as a carpenter. Gilbert enjoyed music and playing the guitar and the fiddle, being in nature and around animals, and working with his hands.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughters, Candace Carswell and Hollie Carswell; and brother, Troy Carswell.

He is survived by his son, Jesse Carswell; two brothers; three sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.

Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory in Valdese is assisting the family.
