Mr. Gary Lee Beck, 77, of Morganton, passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023, after a period of declining health.
Mr. Beck was born May 8, 1946, in Burke County, a son of the late John William Beck and Virginia Morgan. Gary was a former store manager in the grocery business and a salesman in the automobile industry (It had to be a Ford dealership). He loved anything cars “Fords” and interacting with people. Gary retired from Dana Corporation.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Howard Beck.
Surviving, are his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth “Libby” Beck of the home, his children, Terry Powell (Steve) of Morganton, Gary Michael Beck of Morganton, Tammy Porter (Lonnie) of Connelly Springs, and sisters, Peggy Dowd of CT and Brenda Ledensburger of Asheville. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Haley Powell, Elizabeth Lillard (Joe), Jessaca Porter, Brittany Watson and step-great-grandchild, Emma Watson, nephew John Dowd and nieces, Dee Dowd and Belinda Beck.
Funeral Services for Gary Lee Beck will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 26, 2023, in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese, with Rev. Rocky McLendon officiating. Interment will follow in the Glen Alpine Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10 until 11:00 AM, Tuesday at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese.

Gary was a nice guy. I did some satellite work for him years ago.

Gary was a great coworker and friend. I enjoyed many good times working with him and Mike over the years. He was a good provider for his family and demonstrated an exemplary work ethic. His humor was always welcome, he kept everyone laughing.
He will be greatly missed.
I pray God’s comfort and Grace be with his family during this time of loss and in the days to come.
I will miss my good neighbor and friend. Always a friendly wave and smile . A gentle soul in the presence of angels now. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Gary was a special person and will be greatly missed. He was my manager at Bi-Lo and also sold me my first new car. It was a mustang with the 5.0 and a five speed. I remember the first day i started at Bi-LO and he made me feel like part of the crew. So long my friend until we meet again.
