Gary Daniel “Oscar” Walker Sr., 73, of Connelly Springs passed away on Monday, September 30, 2024 following a period of declining health.

Oscar was born February 18, 1951, in McDowell County to the late Benjamin Franklin Walker and Mary Boston Walker. he worked as a deck foreman for Overnite Transportation and was a member of Unity Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by grandson, Jordan Nanney, and great-grandchild, Jordiana Icenhour.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Leona Bryant; daughter, Susan Nanney; son, Gary Daniel Walker Jr.; step-children, Sarah McDaniel (Jay), Brian McDaniel (Kelly), and Joseph McDaniel (Ashley); grandchildren, Amanda Icenhour (Joshua), and Alora Dannie Booher (Savannah); step-grandchildren, Kaylie McDaniel, Olivia McDaniel, Zabriel McDaniel, Starla Haynes, and Braylen McDaniel; and great-grandchildren, Jordan Booher, Shiloh Icenhour, Ivar Icenhour, and Ares Icenhour. Also surviving are his sisters, Shirley Anthony (George), Barbara McKinney (Allen), and Edith Petterson (Monroe); and brother, Ronnie Walker.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 6:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.
