Mrs. Eula Chirstine Benfield Self, 87, of Morganton, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024, at her residence, following a period of declining health.
Eula was born on June 2, 1937, in Avery County to the late Justin Benfield and Nancy Finney Benfield. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church Drexel, and was employed for many years in the hosiery and retail industries.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Perrell Self, and her siblings, Frank, Will, Glenn, Clay and Lucille Benfield.
Surviving are her two daughters, Shelia Self Carswell of Rutherford College, and Patty Renee Self of Morganton. Also surviving is a grandson, Trever Hogg and wife Pang of Salem, three great-grandchildren, Rosalyn, Raiden and Reid, her brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Margaret Self.
A Cryptside service will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. in the Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, with Rev. Marvin Wiley officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the Crossnore Communities for Children, 100 DAR Dr., Crossnore, NC 28616.

I had the distinct privilege to work with Chris at Valdese Hospital and Walmart. She was truly a one in a million person. She always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. I will miss her dearly and love her for an eternity 💔 😢

I worked with her at Drexel Knitting Mills and always looked for her at Walmart! She was a sweet and precious lady!!

I’m so sorry to learn of Christine’s passing. I have fond memories of visiting NC and spending time with family. I remember Chris, and all of Dad’s family, as being very kind as well has having a great sense of humor and love for each other. I feel your loss. Praying for you and your family.
